SPELL-A-THON IS UNDERWAY: Go to our Spell-a-thon page for details on the 2012 version of the event. It kicked off on Thursday, Jan. 19, with an all-school assembly where "The Great Spell-a-thon Book Brawl" made its world premiere! Special thanks to P-H students and staffers who helped make the video, as well as chairperson Julie Eldredge and secretary Diana Tillison, who both put so much work into the wonderful video.

USD 259 BOUNDARY UPDATE: Did you know that there are two big changes currently proposed for Price-Harris and its students? One would change the boundary line for families living west of Woodlawn, north of Douglas and south of Central. Those students would attend Hyde instead of Price-Harris next year.

The second change involves where P-H students go to middle school. Under the proposal, families living south of Central would go to Curtis Middle School beginning next year. Families living north of Central would continue sending kids to Coleman. For more information, or to let district leaders know your opinion, go to usd259.com.

THANKS TO PARENTS/STUDENTS FOR SCHOOL'S NEW MACBOOK PROS: Price-Harris received two new MacBook Pros today (Oct. 21), a result of the fundraising success by P-H parents and students last month. MacBook Pros enable teachers and students to produce movies, videos, podcasts and other 21st Century communications magic.

PRICE-HARRIS MAKES HUGE LEAP IN STATE TEST SCORING: Be sure to catch the special report in The Wichita Eagle called "Grading Our Schools." In it, you'll find some outstanding results from our Price-Harris third-, fourth- and fifth-graders. The report compares the percentages of students who passed the standardized reading, match and science testing and listed more than 350 schools in order of achievement. We've already known how well our kids did, but this report compared P-H and other schools for the first time.

In the report:

-- Price-Harris was No. 4 among all Wichita public schools.

-- Price-Harris improved 25 points from 2009 to 2010 in its combined reading, math and science scores. One of the biggest improvements in a three-county area!
